Ahhhhhhhh.......

So Tempur-Pedic is not paying me to do this, but I just wanted to let you all know how much I LOVE our new bed!!! After years of having hand-me-down mattresses, or spending $800-$1000 on one and having it break down within 3-4 years, we finally bit the bullet and invested (I am not using this word lightly...lol!!!) in a Tempur-Pedic.
We invested...I mean bought...a Tempur-Pedic Classic, as it was the most firm out of all of them. We also got the handy-dandy little neck pillows, which are also made out of the foamy stuff, and let me be the first to say that I have woke-up the last four mornings feeling like a million bucks...seriously!!!!
Now I know that these beds are not for everyone, and that a lot of people have tried them and found them to be really uncomfortable, but I feel like a whole new woman!!! I could not tell you the last time I got out of bed and was not in pain. Well yes I can, it was this morning...lol!!!!
For those of you who don't know, I suffer from chronic muscle pain that I manage with massage, yoga, muscle relaxers (Flexeril), and ibuprofen. I also have no curvature in my neck, and see the chiropractor, who uses this balloon-like pillow thingy to put it back in place.
My muscle pain comes from the fact that my muscles are super sensitive, and will tighten to the point that they cause so much pain that I vomit. Sounds like fun, doesn't it??? I now have a tens-unit (from the physical therapist), and I use that when they tighten up to help them relax. They get so tight that I shock them at a level "8," which is the highest intensity level that the machine goes to, and it doesn't even phase me.
Thankfully, after having used it for some time now, I can use it a level "6" or "7," and they have not been tightening as much lately either. (It has to do with retraining the pain pathways in my muscles or something)
Well...I am off to ride!!! Hope that you are all having happy Friday's!! :)

We slept on a Tempurpedic one night, and welll... neither of us liked it at all... We got a Serta perfect sleeper last year, with a pillow top on it, and it's been Heaven for us.

BUT!

It sure is GREAT to hear you waking up feeling better and not hurting!!!! My Mom In Law has a tens unit too that sees a lot of work... and she too runs it on the 8 setting. So hearing you being able to drop it down some, and waking up feeling better is just grand!!!

Have an awesome ride and a great weekend!

We need a new bed but the stars just haven't aligned just right for us yet. In the mean time, I've been using a memory foam pillow that's normal pillow stuff on one side and memory foam on the other. I've loved that pillow for years, to the point I need to replace it now. That'll come first, I'm sure.

Chronic pain is no fun. I'm right there with ya with my fibro!

The one time I slept on a tempurpedic bed, I thought, "Oh my, I'd better not get one of these, or else I'll never be able to sleep anywhere else!" It was like floating.

Really, indescribable - you must all try one! Absolutely no pressure points, which makes you realize you ever had a pressure point before: )

Those things are so awesome, I'm happy for you. Now go have some nice mexican food and I'll just cry here bitterly: )

~lytha, far from mexican food and those cloud-like beds

I have memory foam for the first 4 inches on my bed then I have various layers of Latex with on frame for support.

I love it - it was hell when the doctor made me sleep on my old mattress for a few days to see if the new mattress was hurting my back. I saw an immediate improvement when i went back to the memory foam! I love the stuff.

What I wouldn't give to get a new bed..... I've been sleeping horribly the past little while and my back/neck always seem to be hurting. Same with Terry. I think it's time for a new mattress! Either that or make the dog sleep on the FLOOR and not the bed.... might give us a bit more room to move and relax that way!

Oh Melanie, I had no idea that you suffered from chronic pain. I'm sorry - pain truly sucks!! So...yeah!!! Sooo glad to hear that you got a new bed and that it is helping. Goody!! We have one of those 4" thick memory foam mattress toppers on top of our fairly firm mattress and we love it!! I'd like to get another one for the horsetrailer bed for when we go camping.
Thanks for your comments about my Ladde's b-day blog. I had a lot of fun posting that one. Hubby and I stayed up until midnight (late for us) scanning pictures and wow!! so many memories!!

Have a great weekend!! Sleep well!!

I'm so happy for you. It's a big decision to get a new mattress and it seems that you made the right choice.

Sweet dreams!!

So glad you're seeing some positive results in the new matress! I've often wondered how the temperpedic sleep. What is this tens unit? I just started going to the chiropractor because of back, neck and shoulder pain (numbness in my left hand) from turning a horse that got cast against the wall by myself. It sounds like something I need! I've tried the massages, yoga etc....but nothing seems to relieve it for very long except when I first get adjusted by the chiro. It's not fun living with chronic pain and I know how you feel. That's so great you're getting relief and wonderful sleep! Take care and thanks for the bed review!

Going to ride your new mattress, eh? lol!:)

You said: "feel like a whole new woman"......I like the old Melanie! Well, without pain of course. Darn pain. I hate that you have to feel pain, but I'm glad the meds, tens unit and your new mattress are making your life more bearable, my beautiful dear friend.

I have mattress envy now! I have looked at these and acquired the little sample that I played with all the time.

Short of taking out a mortgage, I did not think it was doable.
You have given me such a glowing report, I may have to rethink the purchase.

I tend to wake early because of body pain from an old injury(that's another story). I am unable to stay in bed for a full eight hours. Sounds like this might help.

Temperpedic should pay you!

I sold tempurpedic for 4 years. I would love to have one. They have some new styles out that I really like. Could not sleep on the pillow though. Sweet Dreams!

Wow you guys!!! I never imagined that this post would get such a response!!! I'll answer questions the best I can.....

Andrea-LOL!!! The pllows are rather dense, aren't they???

Mrs. Mom-I am glad that you were able to find a comfy mattress. Not everyone can tolerate Tempur-Pedic's, but like I said, I fell like a new woman...teeheehee!!!

OrSunshine-Sometimes I wonder if I have fibromyalgia, but as it is nearly impossible to categorize/diagnose, and seeing as how so many doctors pooh-pooh it (I don't, I am just saying...) I just deal with the muscle tension the best way I can. :)

Lytha-Awwww....I am so sorry that we are all making you homesick (wink, wink)!!! They are comfy though, huh??? And Mexican food??? I will avoid it like the plague...just for you! :)

Steph-I remember your mattress post, and am so happy that you also find yours so comfy! :)

Natarojo-I would say that you should definitely invest in a new mattress. They really do affect the way we sleep. Of course, so does sharing the bed with our two-legged and four-legged children...lol!!!

Cingspots-Thanks you!!! No need to feel sorry for me though...I am used to having nasty muscles. :) And I say get a comfy mattress for your trailer. Spring and summer are almost here, and soon you will be back out on those trails!

Val-LOL!!! Sweet dreams indeed!!! It really did take a lot of research and trying out of beds before we made our decision.

Blue-Eyed Tango-Ahhhh yes...turning a cast horse by yourself could definitely injure your back. A tens unit is a little device that delivers an electrical shock/impulse to whatever area you apply it to. I will stop by your blog and leave you a link.

Lisa!!! So good to hear from you! No worries...I am still the same old Mellie on the inside, just less some of the pain and discomfort!!! :)

Gail-We struggled with the cost of this mattress too, but figured that we spend at least 1/2 of the amount every 2-4 years on mattresses that don't hold up. Tempur-Pedic's supposedly are good for 20 years (I kind of doubt that), but I am hoping that we can at least get 10 out of it.

Dusty Devoe-I am not 100% comfy with the pillow yet either. My friends that have them said that I need to give it at least 3-4 weeks. We shall see......

Mel- More and more doctors are recognizing fibro. Even my rheumatologist recognizes it. As he says, we know migraines exist. It took years for the acceptance of migraines, but we can't prove them. He believes with time that the acceptance of fibro will become more prevalent.

I was diagnosed by an integrated medicine doctor in Alaska. I have a couple doctors here in Oregon who recognize fibro's existance, but I hear you on it being hard to find a doctor who will test and diagnose. Diagnosing isn't really all that hard. My doctor (in AK) had a questionnaire, did a lot of blood work (to rule out everything else), tested pressure points and followed my case for about 2 months before deciding the diagnosis.

From there, it's been an uphill battle for me. As I've blogged, I don't seem to tolerate meds very well. I hope that what you're already doing continues to work for you.
